CAN KRATOM INCREASE YOUR PAIN TOLERANCE?
The Experiment That Sparked It All
In a controlled human study published in 2020, researchers set out to answer a simple but powerful question:
Can kratom actually increase pain tolerance?
Participants, who were regular kratom users, were asked to immerse their hand in cold water (a classic pain tolerance test). They were tested both before and after consuming kratom.
The result:
After consuming kratom, participants were able to withstand the cold significantly longer.
In fact, the study found a statistically significant increase in pain tolerance after kratom use.
Bringing It to Life: The ETHA Version
Now we’re recreating a version of this experiment...ETHA style.
Victor and Sasha will:
- Test baseline pain tolerance (yes, ice water is involved)
- Consume a controlled amount of kratom
- Re-test and compare results in real time
- Share physical, mental, and emotional observations
But this isn’t just about enduring discomfort, it’s about understanding the relationship between mind, body, and plant compounds.
Why This Matters
Pain isn’t just physical. Pain is neurological, emotional, and deeply personal.
Traditional opioids blunt pain, but often come with serious downsides. Kratom, on the other hand, interacts with similar receptors but behaves differently in the body, potentially offering relief without some of the same risks.
Early research (including this study) suggests:
- Increased pain tolerance
- Potential for discomfort relief
- A unique balance of stimulation and relaxation
At the same time, science is still catching up. Larger, more rigorous trials are needed to fully understand both benefits and risks.
What We’re Really Exploring
This isn’t just a “can you handle cold water longer” challenge.
It’s about:
- Perception vs. reality: how much of pain is mental?
- Plant intelligence: how natural compounds influence human biology
- Empowerment: giving people tools to take control of their well-being
The Bigger Picture
At ETHA, we believe in transparency, education, and experience.
Anyone can talk about a product.
But we’d rather show you.
This experiment is a step toward bridging the gap between:
- Clinical research
- Real-world experience
- And honest conversation
What if the key to living fully isn’t avoiding discomfort…
but learning how to move through it better, stronger, and more aware?
Stay tuned.

I LOVED reading this article because it confirms what I have experienced in my life! Kratom has helped lessen my pain way better than opioids( I’m prescribed Tylenol 3) which I took before discovering kratom about 10 years ago. Kratom not only lessens my pain but gives me energy and a more positive outlook on the fact that I do have chronic pain but there is a plant based way to manage it without the side effects of opioids. I do believe plants interact with the body in a more positive way than do chemicals. I love kratom and am so thankful for your company!
